Way To Go Tyler

Last Friday we had the pleasure of attending Tyler's Eighth Grade Recognition! There were about 350 kids receiving their "promotion" certificates. We were pleasantly surprised when Tyler also received awards for Science, and Citizenship! He was even surprised at the Citizenship one. He now leaves middle school and starts High School, and I mean now, he has three books to read before school starts on August 11. No rest for the honors student.Oh, and by the way, the suit was totally Tyler's idea. He had been bugging me for a while to take him to get one. We got this one at a great second hand store for $25!!!

Kamrie's Recital

The end of the school year keeps us busy. One of the fun things is always Kamrie's dance recital. When I watch this video, she looks so grown up.
It was actually quite a night. I had bought tickets to see Beauty and the Beast, being put on by a local high school and it ended up being the same night as the recital. So as soon as she finished her dance, I went and got her, she put a skirt and sweater over her leotard while we drove to the play. We got there with about 5 minutes to spare. It was well worth!

So here is my beautiful little ballerina!!

A Couple Funnies!

So I was just flipping through channels, and stopped at an "oldie." A Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin movie called Marriage On the Rocks. In the scene Dean Martin was talking to Deborah Kerr, about when they first met, he says, "I think you're much better looking now then you were then. And if I'm right you were quite skinny." I LOVED her answer -
"I wasn't skinny, I was 18, there's a difference"

This reminded me of something else I had wanted to post. We were out to dinner with our good friends a few months ago. At the booth behind us was couple of Senior Southern Ladies, they are very entertaining. One of them said something that I just LOVED! She said, with her beautiful southern drawl, "It's not the getting old that's bad, it's the getting ugly!"

Have a good day!

Thanks Mom

In the last year or so, I have thought about something - a lot! Friends and acquaintances are often telling me, "I can't believe you do all the things you do!" Now I am not telling you this to brag, or to make you think I am some kind of incredible being. Not at all, this post is an ode to my Mom.

As examples of times people have said this.

I came home from CA a few years ago, where I had seen a lot of vinyl lettering. No one in TN had even seen it. So I told Jim I thought I could start my own lettering business. He said OK? So I bought a machine, and got started. People were so surprised by this. Then just today my neighbor came over to ask Jim to fix her lights in her yard. She asked him because she had noticed that ours were working again. They had been out for awhile. Well, Jim looked at her and said, "I didn't fix them, Amy did."

So what does this have to do with my Mom. First of all, my Mom did everything, fixing stuff around the house, refinishing furniture, and cabinets. Building me a bed I saw in Seventeen magazine. I guess I just assumed that is what Mom's do.

The second reason goes much deeper. I don't think there was ever a time in my life when I wanted to try or do something (something worthwhile) that my Mom said, "no" or more importantly, "you can't do that". And always supported me in whatever I was doing. I don't think I have ever felt there was something I couldn't do, if I really wanted to, and I owe that to my Mom.

So Happy Mother's Day Mom! And thank you for always allowing me to be me.

I love you,
Amy

Birthday-Weekend

This year my b-day fell on a Monday, which means, I get to celebrate all weekend. At least that is what my hubby says.

So it started on Saturday morning, and even though this wasn't an actual b-day gift, it felt like one. We only had 1 event at the track meet. It is pre-lims so not all events are run. We only had to go for Scott to throw the shot put, and they let him go first!! So we were outta there by 9:15!!!!! (We are typically there til 2:30)

Then after Jim helped me with the grocery shopping, he took me to a movie, my choice. We went to see Made of Honor, starring McDreamy. If you don't know what that means, don't sweat it, you obviously don't watch Grey's Anatomy! It was a great movie, we both liked it.

We came home and I had some things to get ready for church, so Jim took the big boys to hit balls at the driving range.

Later that night, we went to one of my FAVORITE resturaunts - Ruth's Chirs Steakhouse - YUM! Enjoyed one of the best steaks around, and got free dessert! Oh and the best thing about a b-day dinner at Ruth's Chris, they do not sing to you!!! Way to classy a joint for that. Even their web site has classy music.

On Sunday Jim cooked a yummy tri-tip dinner. They finally sell it at Costco, we have been three years without being able to buy tri-tip. It was so yummy, and even better, he cleaned up the dishes.

On Monday night, my actually b-day, in between dropping off and picking up of kids we went to Qdoba's. This is a new place to our neck of the woods, but very, very tasty.

I also got exactly what I asked for - a flash, and a monopod, for my camera.

I would have to say the best part of my whole birth-weekend happened on Sunday afternoon. Kamrie was being very sneaky, taking her brothers out of the room where I was one at a time. She then presented me with a card, signed by them all. But the best part was, she included her tooth fairy money in it. She is so cool!!!

So Happy b-day to me!! I have a great family!!

And now it's going to be Mother's day!! I love May!

FOURTEEN

Well, Tyler had his 14th birthday on April 21st. I know this is a little late.

Part of me can't believe it has been fourteen years since he was born. Then he comes in the room, stands by me, 3 inches taller than me. Then he talks to me in his Dad's voice, and reality hits.

He is such a great kid, and my favorite TV watching bud. When he says, "Hey Mom, you wanna watch Numbers with me?" I love that.

He is doing great in school, and has had no problems this year, he is truly growing up and becoming an amazing young man.

Here is a little tribute to my "boy" (Which he is not very happy with!)

Piano Recital

Last Saturday, Scott & Chad performed in their piano recital. This happened in between events at the track meet, so it was a very busy day.
